"Thou whoreson zed, thou unnecessary letter!"
PLACES I'VE LIVED:
Little Rock (1979), where I was born.
Springdale, Arkansas (1980-1997), where I was raised, alongside my three sisters, by a happy-go-lucky trucking executive and a tough-as-nails home-maker; educated at a small, private, utterly cuckoo Christian elementary and high school; and saved by reading lots of books.
Evanston, Illinois (1997-2001), where I attended Northwestern; met my best friend; and came out of the closet.
Chicago (2001-present), where I floundered; got a job in an office; and began contributing bits of theater criticism to the Chicago Reader.
THINGS I LIKE: In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust; The Tempest by William Shakespeare; The Wizard of Oz; the film criticism of Stanley Kauffmann; The New York Review of Books; Frank Sinatra’s In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning; the lyrics of Lorenz Hart; the way Jake Gyllenhaal looks. THINGS I DISLIKE: bleu cheese; change.
