A look at how I've been diverting myself lately.
Books
READING: The Five Books of Moses: A Translation with Commentary by Robert Alter; D'Aulaires' Book of Norse Myths.
FINISHED: The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare [I'm re-reading all of Shakespeare in 2006--well, I guess I shouldn't say re-reading, since there are a few I've never read before; shocking, isn't it? See what happens when you put off reading The Merry Wives of Windsor and Timon of Athens? Eventually, you look like a doofus].
ON TAP: The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare; Rubaiyat of Omar Kayyam, trans. by Edward FitzGerald; Little Women, Little Men, Jo's Boys by Louisa May Alcott.
Movies
SAW: Syriana [but darned if I could tell you what the devil was going on].
OLD MOVIE OF THE WEEK: Every Man for Himself (Godard, 1980), Gene Siskel Film Center [here's a tip: don't see a Godard film when you're drunk; you'll remember it as a slightly comic, slightly creepy collection of unconnected incidents involving a bunch of disaffected French people who never smile].
Music
CDs I LISTENED TO THIS WEEK: The Vandermark Five, "Airports for Light"; The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, "Can I Persuade You?"; Sarah Vaughan, "Swingin' Easy"; "The Fats Waller Piano Solos: Turn on the Heat."
