My Granny Jewel passed away this morning. She was 86. I don't quite feel up to writing any sort of elegy at the moment, but I wanted to mark her passing because she meant a lot to me.
I found a note she sent me almost exactly a year ago, February 8, 2005. It was written on one of the notecards I got her for either Christmas or her birthday; I don't remember which. Here's what she wrote:
Feb. 8, 2005
Dear Zac:
Sorry I missed your call honey!
Kirk was here last night and told me.
Well, they give me a good shower this morning [she was living in a nursing home at this point]. So I'm all cleaned up (ha!).
Wish you were here, we would go out and eat.
I love these cards:
I love you better.
Granny
