A look at how I've been diverting myself lately.
Books
READING: Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset, trans. by Tiina Nunnally; The Five Books of Moses: A Translation with Commentary by Robert Alter [everything was clipping along nicely until God had to go and give the most insanely detailed instructions for the building of his blasted tabernacle, at which point the narrative ground to a halt]; A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare.
FINISHED: Natalie Wood: A Life by Gavin Lambert [the book is absorbing; its only error is in overestimating its subject's acting talent].
Plays
SAW: Loving Repeating: A Musical of Gertrude Stein (About Face).
Movies
SAW: CSA: Confederate States of America ; Adam's Rib; Tsotsi [at the ticket counter, my friend asked for "two for 'Tootsie,' please"].
Music
CDs I LISTENED TO THIS WEEK: Bob Dylan: "Time Out of Mind," "Love and Theft"; "The Very Best of the Foundations"; Fugazi: "The Argument"; Garbage: "Garbage."
Fool's Four
MY FOUR FAVORITE FEMALE MOVIE STARS OF ALL TIME:
1. Meryl Streep
2. Katharine Hepburn
3. Judy Garland [I don't care how faggy it sounds: she was one fantastic performer]
4. Bette Davis
