Several little things are bugging me today.
1.
For starters, my younger sisters are scheduled to arrive in Chicago this evening, and I still haven't cleaned my apartment or made any plans for entertaining them--except, of course, for dinner on Friday, when I will introduce them, God help us, to my boyfriend PISS.
2.
And speaking of PISS, he and I had an extraordinarily stupid fight last night. It was, of course, my fault. I say of course because if I'm going to pick a fight, it will most likely be a stupid one. The (paradoxical) magnitude of my pettiness would truly astonish you. I like to think of it as yet another manifestation of my mania for trivia: after all, it seems only natural to me that a person who spends a considerable amount of time cataloguing unimportant little facts would pick fights over unimportant little matters in his personal life, don't you agree? In fact, if you ask me, PISS should just chalk up my nitpicking to an immutable personality trait and leave it at that. Frankly, I shouldn't even have to apologize.
3.
Yesterday I discovered that two co-workers I've known for some time are Republicans. I mean, honest-to-God Republicans! I feel like one of those people you see on the news who are like, "Well, he seemed like a real nice guy: went to church, drove in the car pool, helped out at all the neighborhood barbecues . . . Who'd've thought he'd have all those heads in his freezer?"
I mean, you think you know a person.
4.
In accordance with one of my New Year's resolutions, I have begun working on becoming a volunteer for Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly. Part of that process involves getting fingerprinted. That's fine by me (my fingertips haven't anything to hide), but all of the fingerprinting places are way up north or way down south or way out west. I don't have a point or punch line; it's just really inconvenient.
Damn!
