A look at how I've been diverting myself lately.
Books
FINISHED: Truth and Consequences by Alison Lurie.
Movies
SAW: The Secret Life of Words [my best friend says that's one of those titles that sounds exactly like something I'd see or read; other examples include Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles and Memories of My Melancholy Whores; if I were going to invent one right now, it'd be something like . . . oh, I don't know . . . how about A Daisy Wilts in Kosovo?], Blades of Glory [this, however, is not the type of film I would usually see; perhaps that's why I found it so funny].
WANT TO SEE: Amazing Grace, Bamako.
OLD MOVIE OF THE WEEK: She's Gotta Have It (Lee, 1986) [at the Film Center].
Music
CDs I'M LISTENING TO THIS WEEK: Loretta Lynn, "Van Lear Rose"; The Mavericks, "Trampoline"; Keb' Mo': "Keb' Mo'", "Just Like You"; Willie Nelson, "Teatro."
RECENTLY ADDED TO MY iTUNES LIBRARY: "Peas in a Pod," Grey Gardens; "How Will I Know," Whitney Houston; "To Know Him Is to Love Him," Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt; "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," Elton John; "Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)," Waylon Jennings; "Your Song," Elton John; "Night Life," BB King and Willie Nelson [well, why not?]; "Rocket Man (I Think It's Going to Be a Long Long Time)," Elton John; "Tennessee Stud," The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band; "Part of Your World," Jodi Benson.
